TOKYO, JAPAN
Hard-punching super-feather prospect Kenichi Ogawa (17-1, 14 KOs), 130, impressively captured the Japanese 130-pound belt as he displayed a stunning blitzkrieg, dropped previously unbeaten IBF#13 defending champ Rikki Naito (13-1, 5 KOs), 130 in the closing seconds of the opening session, put on an aggressive performance and was awarded a technical decision (49-47, 49-46 twice) after Naito became unable to go on due to a bad laceration caused by an accidental butt at 2:28 of the fifth round on Monday in Tokyo, Japan. Also, OPBF 130-pound ruler Masayuki Ito (18-1-1, 8 KOs), 130, kept his regional belt by scoring a unanimous nod (117-111, 118-111 twice) over compatriot Shingo Eto (17-4-1, 9 KOs), 130, over twelve.
Ogawa exploded a fast and heavy right to the face of the southpaw champ, who badly hit the canvas and absorbed serious punishment with nearly paralyzed legs. The powerful challenger was in command in the first three sessions, piling up points so steady that he would wrest the national belt from the undefeated southpaw, the son of ex-OBF middleweight titlist Cassius Naito. A head-collision happened midway in the fatal fifth, when the champ began to bleed from a bad gash too profusely to go on. Ogawa looks promising with his power punching.
