TOKYO--Unranked TAKUYA KIYA, 115, put on an aggressive and powerful
performance against JBC #5 ranked junior bantam HISATAKA IKEMORI, 115,
and earned a unanimous technical decision after the 8th in a scheduled
10. Ikemori suffered a gash caused by an accidental butt, and it became
worsened as the contest progressed. Since the cause of the cut was an
accidental butt (not a legal punch), referee Uratani declared a
technical decision, which read: 80-75, 79-76 and 80-74, all for Kiya,
9-1-1, 6 KOs. Despite his defeat in the pro debut, Kiya continued
winning 9 bouts in his last 10 outings, including a draw. Iketani, a
crafty footworker, revealed his lack of convincing power, so was
obviously overpowered by the willing mixer. Iketani fell to 8-2-3, 3
KOs.
A semi-final 10 saw a one-punch KO of KING TIGER ISHIDA, previously fighting under his real name of Hironobu Ishida, 126, over ex-Philippine champ LITO GONZAGA, 126, with a wicked overhand right at 1:49 of the 3rd session. It was a disappointing affair, as Gonzalga showed nothing at all, only circling without throwing any solid shots. Probably he intended to wait for Ishida to soften his hot opening rallies, but his waiting game was abruptly over with the coup-de-grace. Ishida, 23, is 13-2-1, 7 KOs. Gonzaga's recrod was announced as 12-5-3, 5 KOs before this bout, but it was obviously untrue as he had fought much more competitions.
Faster and more aggressive NAOTO ASAKURA, 130, gave previously unbeaten
MASATAKA HIRATA, 129 1/4, his first setback by winning a close but
unanimous decision (78-77, 78-76 and 79-77) over 8. The victor is
8-3-1, 2 KOs. The loser fell to 7-1-1, 4 KOs.
