Jan. 31, 1998
NAGOYA, JAPAN--Local middle prospect Hiroki Tomi, 159, was befuddled by the roughness and wildness of Korean Hyunsik Lee, 158 1/4, but utilized his footwork and dominated the second half to win a close but unanimous decision (double 97-96 and 97-95) over 10. Tomi, who failed to win the national title from Yoshinori Nishizawa in the previous year, upped his mark to 11-2-2, 5 KOs. Lee reportedly fell to 12-6-3, 8 KOs.

Upcoming junior feather prospect Kozo Ishii, 121 3/4, floored Korean Seungpyo Hong, KBC #3 contender, 120 3/4, in the 4th and 5th and finally halted him with another knockdown with the towel being tossed in at 1:56 of the 6th. Ishii bettered his ledger to 13-1, 9 KOs. Hong dropped to 7-5-2, 4 KOs.
