TAMAKI TECHNICAL DRAW WITH THAI FEATHER CHAMP KHUMPOON

July 28, 1998
OSAKA--Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium #2--Veteran local favorite ATSUSHI TAMAKI(right photo), 128, engaged in his first bout since his first round demolition by Takeo Imaoka in his unsuccessful bid for the OPBF feather title, and was held to a technical draw by Thai national feather boss KHUMPOON EAUSAMPHAN, 126 1/4, at 1:21 of the opening session in a scheduled 10.

Khumpoon landed a solid right and had Tamaki staggering to the ropes in the first session. Then, a collision of heads happened with Tamaki bleeding so badly that the referee inevitably called a halt in less than a half of the opening canto.

Tamaki, who had failed to win the national title 3 times and the OPBF crown once, is 23-9-7, 7 KOs. Khumpoon, 20, is 12-3-2, 9 KOs.
Promoter: Oboshi Morigaki Promotions.
