RESULTS IN JAPAN IN SEPTEMBER


Sept. 3
Tokyo--Ex-WBA champ Hiroki Ioka(right photo), 118, showed a lackluster performance, but earned a unanimous decision (98-95, 98-96 and 99-95) over Filipino Jerry Pahayahay, 16 1/2, over 10. Ioka is 33-7-1, 32 KOs. Pahayahay is reportedly 37-12-1, 10 KOs.

In a semi-final, WBC #4 ranked light fly Panieng Poontarat Sasiprabha, 112, made his Japanese debut by halting ex-national mini-fly boss Keisuke Yokoyama, 111 1/4, after the 8th round in a scheduled 10. Panieng is 22-0, 10 KOs. The loser fell to 11-5-2, 6 KOs.

Sept. 6
Nagoya--WBA #5 ranked mini-fly Satoru Abe, 105, was surprisingly held to a split draw by Hiroshi Matsumoto, 104 1/4, over 10. Scored: 100-98 for Abe, 98-97 for Matsumoto, and 96-96. Abe is 20-2-1, 7 KOs. Matsumoto is 7-1-3, 2 KOs.

Sensational flyweight prospect Hideyasu Ishihara, 113 1/2, chalked up a TKO win over Filipino Nathan Barcelona, 113 3/4, at 0:37 of the 6th. Ishihara, who decked his pro debut by beating the national fly champ Nolito Suzuki Cabato, is 2-0, 1 KO. The Filipino is reportedly 20-16-2, 11 KOs.

JBC #2 ranked feather Junichi Nakamura, 125 3/4, unanimously decisioned Isao Ohno, 125 1/2, over 10. Nakamura, who had failed to win the national title from Takashi Koshimoto twice, is 21-3-1, 16 KOs. Ohno fell to 11-8, 7 KOs.

Sept. 11
Obihiro--Japanese welter champ Toshiharu Kayama, 149, decked his first bout since his coronation, as he disposed of Filipino Boy Ligas, 149, at 0:25 of the 2nd round. Ligas, reportedly 45-28-9, looked to have left his fighting spirit in his country. Kayama is 11-0-1, 6 KOs.

Sept. 13
Fukuoka--JBC #1 ranked super bantam Momotaro Kitajima(left photo), 121 1/2, ran his unbeaten mark to 15-0, 9 KOs, by finishing Filipino Marlon Castaneda, 119 3/4, at 2:39 of the 5th.

Ryutaro Ueno, 125, stopped Akira Furumi, 125 1/2, at 2:25 of the 3rd. Ueno is 7-1-2, 5 KOs. The loser dipped to 6-5-2, 3 KOs.

Sept. 14
Tokyo--Ex-national super feather champ Koji Arisawa(the left), 129 1/2, was losing 3 rounds in the first 4 sessions, but exploded solid body shots to sink Filipino Lito Gonzaga, 130, at 1:48 of the 5th round. Koji is 19-1, 16 KOs. Gonzaga is reportedly 23-19-1, 7 KOs.

Koji's twin brother, Kazu Arisawa(the right), 127 1/2, finished Filipino Lito Wayan, 128, at 2:45 of the 2nd session. Kazu is 14-2-1, 10 KOs. Wayan reportedly fell to 8-18-4, 2 KOs.

Sept. 16
Nagoya--Kenichi Moriyama, 126, scored an upset TKO over veteran Tomoaki Iwasa, 125 1/4, after the 6th. Iwasa, 24-6-2, 16 KOs, retired in his corner. The winner is 11-7-2, 6 KOs.

Sept. 17
Osaka--Shinji Kawahara, 119 1/2, polished off Manabu Okuda, 119 1/2, at 2:41 into the first round in a scheduled 8. The winner is 6-4-1, 3 KOs. The loser dipped to 5-5-3.

Sept. 21
Tokyo--WBA #8 ranked Rick Roberts Yoshimura, 135, kept his Japanese lightweight title for the 15th time by disposing of Yasuharu Yamaguchi, 134 3/4, at 1:40 of the 3rd round. Rick is 32-5, 19 KOs. Yamaguchi is 8-6-1, 3 KOs.

Wataru Yamaji, 112, won a shutout verdict over Filipino Jovy Mancha, 110, over 10. Yamaji is 10-4, 7 KOs.

Sept. 23
Takasago--Fast-rising bantam Toshiaki Nishioka(left photo), 117 3/4, scored a fine KO of Filipino Joel Avila, 117, at 0:23 of the 2nd. Nishioka is 15-2-1, 8 KOs. Avila, GAB #1 ranked bantam, is reportedly 14-6, 5 KOs.

Akira Ebisuoka, 121 3/4, unanimously decisioned Filipino Ric Evasco, 121 1/2, over 8. The winner is 17-5-1, 3 KOs. The loser is reportedly 13-8-1, 7 KOs.

Masaki Kawabata, 112, scored a shutout decision over Filipino Eugene Gonzales, 109 1/4, over 8.

Sept. 23
Kochi--Akifumi Yoshizaki, 125 3/4, knocked out Yuichi Ogawa, 124 3/4, at 2:07 of the 5th round in a scheduled 8.

Sept. 25
Tokyo--Tsuyoshi Tanaka, 108, registered a TKO win over Mitsuya Shimazu, 108, at 1:26 of the 6th round in a scheduled 10.

Sept. 27
Miyakonojo--Tadashi Yuba(right photo), 139 1/4, lopsidedly battered Hiroshi Akamine, 139 1/2, and finally scored a KO win at 1:37 of the 7th in a scheduled 10. Yuba is 11-1, 7 KOs. The loser dipped to 7-6-2, 4 KOs.

Japanese light fly champ Hidenobu Honda, 113, engaged in a non-title go and eraned a unanimous decision over Yuya Matoba, 113, over 8. Honda, ranked #8 both by the WBA and WBC, is 16-1, 7 KOs. The loser dipped to 8-4-1, 3 KOs.

Sept. 27
Gifu--Tomoyasu Hayano, 126 1/4, needed just 1:11 of the opening session to demolish Filipino Ferdinand Lanohan, 124 1/2, in a scheduled 8.

Sept. 28
Osaka--Haruhiko Okuda, 125 3/4, stopped Takayuki Yokoyama, 126, at 2:42 of the 6th round in a scheduled 10. Okuda is 10-1, 7 KOs. Yokoyama fell to 9-8-3, 5 KOs.
