WATANABE DECKS 2ND COMEBACK FIGHT

WATANABEOct. 30
TOKYO, JAPAN--Korakuen Hall--Comebacking ex-WBA #1 ranked feather contender YUJI WATANABE(right photo), 133, found it very easy to demolish Filipino ARNOLD JASPE, 132 1/4, by showing his superior power at 2:40 of the opening session.

Watanabe caught him with a wicked right to the face, and floored the Filipino to the deck. Jaspe amazed the crowd by beating the count. Watanabe kept his cool and landed a sweeping left hook to the rubbery-leged Jaspe to collaspe him for the count.

Watanabe, whose jaw was broken by Wilfredo Vazquez in a bit for the WBA feather title in Mar. of the previous year, celebrated his 2nd comeback go, following a 4th round KO of Korean Changjong Kim last Aug.

Watanabe bettered his ledger to 21-3, 20 KOs. Jaspe reportedly fell to 7-7, 3 KOs.

UNDERCARD:

OSAKA--Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium--Unbeaten prospect EIICHI SUGAMA, 125 1/4, amazinginly suffered his first setback, as he lost a close but unanimous decision to veteran lefty HIROAKI FUKUMOTO, 125 1/2, over 10.

Sugama had him at bay in the 2nd, and domianted the first 3 rounds. But Fukumoto fought back hard to have the tide turn, and dropped him with a southpaw left hook in the 7th.

Sugama desperately attacked the lefty and had him groggy in the last session, which wasn't enough to overcome the early points deficits. JBC #9 ranked feather Sugama fell to 11-1, 9 KOs. Fukumoto, JBC #9 super bantam, raised his mark to 20-13-2, 16 KOs. Fukumoto might be a hard stepping stone for newcomers.

UNDERCARD:

MASAMORI TOKUYAMA, 111 1/2, was awarded a TKO victory over KATSUHIKO YOSHIUMI, 111 1/2, at the end of the 4th due to the latter's worsened cut on the right optic in a scheduled 8. Tokuyama, 15-2-1, 3 KOs, is slated to meet ex-WBA light fly champ Hiroki Ioka here in Dec. Yoshimumi dipped to 13-9-2, 1 KO.
