TOKYO, JAPAN--Korakuen Hall-Upcoming footworker MANABU FUKUSHIMA, 122,
swept all rounds before referee Asao declared a halt to save Filipino
JAIME BARCELONA, 122, at 1:15 of the 6th round in a scheduled 10.
Fukushima, overrated atop in the OPBF ratings thanks to his previous upset KO of Filipino national champ Arman Molina, often landed solid left uppercuts to the belly, but Barcelona refused to go down despite the lopsided proceedings.
Fukushima, JBC #4 ranked 122-pounder, improved to 13-2-1, 10 KOs. Barcelona reportedly dropped to 9-2-2, 1 KO.
JBC #4 feather ATSUSHI HAGIWARA, 126, floored JBC #10 bantam KENNICHI MORIYAMA, 126, twice in the opening session, battered him to the punch and decked a TKO win at 0:48 of the 4th round in a semi-final 10. Hagiwara, who had failed to win the national feather throne on a split verdict to Takashi Koshimoto, is 20-4, 9 KOs. Moriyama dipped to 11-9-2, 6 KOs.
The first tenner saw a controversial draw, as previously unbeaten Mongolian import ISOODOLIN BATNASAN, JBC #4 super welter, 147, was surprisingly held to a split draw by JBC #3 welter TERUO NAGASE, 147, over 10.
Scored: referee Kumazaki 97-96 for Batnasan, judge Kanaya 98-97 for
Nagase, and judge Morita 97-97. This reporter saw it 98-95 for the
Mongolian due to his superior defensive skill in mixing up with the
Japanese puncher. Nagase didn't land effective shots to Batnasan, who
looked more accurate in swapping punches in the close quarter.
Batnasan is 5-0-1, 4 KOs. Nagase is 14-5-1, 9 KOs.
Promoter: Teiken Promotions.
