LOCAL PROSPECT SUGAMA SCORES FIRST ROUND KO

Feb. 11, 1999
OSAKA--Tennohji Isshinji Theater--Once-beaten local prospect EIICHI SUGAMA, 129 3/4, dropped HIROSHI NAKAMURA, 130, twice and impressively scored a fine knockout at 2:35 of the opening session in a scheduled 10.

Sugama, 12-1, 10 KOs, previously won the All Japan Shinjin-o (Novice King) tourney (which is annually competed by our 4-round green boys) in a spectacular fashion to be ranked at the end of the JBC ratings.

He was a highly expected prospect, but he suffered an upset decision to lefty veteran Hiroaki Fukumoto in his previous see-saw affair, being dropped out of the Japanese ratings.

This was his comeback go, and this triumph will make him re-enter the Japanese top ten. The loser fell to 5-2-2, 3 KOs.
Promoter: Kazama Promotions.
