WBA INTERIM MINIMUM CHAMP SONGKRAM LOSES IN NON-TITLE BOUT

MATSUMOTO KITAKYUSHU, JAPAN-WBA interim minimum champ SONGKRAM PORPAOIN, 106, lost an upset unanimous decision to JBC #3 ranked HIROSHI MATSUMOTO(right photo), 105 1/4, in a non-title 10.

Scored: double 99-92 and 97-95, all for Matsumoto, 9-2-3, 3 KOs, who previously failed to win the vacant Japanese national title by a unanimous decision to Hiroshi Nakajima in Tokyo last Jan.

Matsumoto took the initiative from the start, utilizing his busy mobility. The Japanese became aggressive from the 5th round on, as he occasionally pinned the champ to the ropes with a flurry of punches.

Songkram, 20-2-1, 10 KOs, had acquired the WBA interim 105-pound title via technical decision over Filipino Ronnie Magramo in Thailand last Jan.

UNDERCARD:

JBC #2 ranked light fly TOMOHITO HIGASHIJIMA, 112 1/2, outscored Thailander PHISES VOW SURPHOL, 113, over 10. The victor is 11-1, 8 KOs.

WBA #5 MINIMUM ABE POLISHES OFF SALES IN 81 SECONDS

NAGOYA, JAPAN-WBA #5 ranked minimum contender, lefty SATORU ABE(right photo), 105, made very short work of Filipino ANTHONY SALES, 105, at 1:21 of the opening session in a scheduled 10.

OTSUKA It's a stunning one-punch KO by Abe's southpaw right hook. Sales collapsed flat to be unable to beat the count. The short left Abe, who had entered the world top ten by upsetting Randy Mangubat years ago, raised his mark to 22-2-1, 9 KOs.

Unbeaten hard-hitting prospect YOSUKE OTSUKA(left photo), 141 3/4, dropped Filipino RAMON MOLINA, 140 3/4, twice en route to a lopsided decision over 8. Otsuka, 7-0, 6 KOs, failed to finish the groggy foe due to Molina's admirable durability.
