FUKUSHIMA OUTSCORES WBA #9 FEATHER CHAMOKPET

May. 19, 1999
KUMAMOTO, JAPAN-JBC #5 ranked super-bantam KYOSHIRO FUKUSHIMA, 127, scored an upset decision over WBA #9 ranked feather contender CHAMOKPET SINGWANCHA, 127, over 10.

Fukushima, ex-Japanese super-bantam champ dethroned by Yutaka Manabe on a 10th round TKO in Dec., 1997, fought cleverly except in the 4th, when Chamokpet made him groggy with a flurry of punches. The Thailander was penalized a point twice for having hit low in the 3rd and 6th.

Fukushima, in the 9th, had him badly reeling to the ropes with a solid southpaw straight left in the closing seconds of the round. Chamokpet was barely saved by the bell.

Scored: 97-95, 98-95 and 97-93, all for Fukushima, 19-5-1, 3 KOs. (Please distinguish JBC #1 ranked MANABU Fukushima and this JBC #5 ranked KYOSHIRO Fukushima.)

UNDERCARD:

TAKAMITSU KUNITAKE, 104 3/4, scored a KO win over Filipino ALAN LLANITA, 105, at 0:49 into the second round of a scheduled 10. Kunitake is 10-2-1, 4 KOs.
