HONDA FLATTENS OHTANI TO KEEP JAPANESE LT. FLY TITLE

May. 20, 1999
HONDA OSAKA, JAPAN-WBA #3 ranked lefty HIDENOBU HONDA(right photo), 108, kept his Japanese light flyweight throne on a fine KO win over KAZUMASA OHTANI, 108, at 1:56 of the third round in a scheduled 10.

The taller champ outboxed and outpunched him to dominate the first two rounds with ease. Honda floored JBC #6 ranked Ohtani with a southpaw right hook in the third. Though Ohtani beat the count, Honda landed a wicked straight left to flatten him for the count.

Honda raised his mark to 19-1, 10 KOs. The loser fell to 10-8-1, 5 KOs.

UNDERCARD:

KOJI FUJIWARA, WBC #15 ranked super-fly, 115, appeared after a 6-month layoff, and sank Thailander KIAT SAENGMORAKOT, 115, TBC #8 super-fly, with a southpaw left uppercut at 1:18" of the 4th round in a scheduled 10. Fujiwara, 19-1, 15 KOs, was very inactive in the previous year, having fought just once to outscore Takeji Nobeyama in Osaka on Nov. 9. He will rebound this year.

Ex-amateur prospect TAKAYUKI KOHROGI, 111 1/4, decked an upset victory, as he scored a KO win over WBC #7 ranked mini-fly contender CHATCHAI NAKONTORN-PARKVIEW, 115, at 3:01 of the 6th and final round.

Kohrogi, 4-0-1, 1 KO, caught his opponent with a well-timed right and made him kneel down. The referee counted him out, and raised Kohrogi's hand. Chatchai, who protested against the stoppage, fell to 9-3, 4 KOs.

HIROSUKE OKABE, 104 3/4, finished Thaland's CITYLAND SITCHARMING, 105, at 2:46 of the opening session in a scheduled 6. The winner is 6-6, 4 KOs. The Thai loser is reportedly 4-4, 1 KO.
