SENDAI, JAPAN-Slick-punching speedster ranked #4 by the WBA, JUNICHI
ONO(right photo), 138 1/2, kept his Japanese super-lightweight title, as he carved
out a shutout decision over MASAYUKI UCHIDA, 140, over 10.
It was as easy a defense as expected. Ono piled up points so steadily as to score a lopsided victory-Morita 100-94, Shimakawa 100-93 and Kumazaki 98-95.
Ono, 18-1-2, 8 KOs, is a fast-handed boxer who lacks convincing power, but his hand speed is remarkable, having registered his fourth title defense since he dethroned lefty hard-puncher Hisao Arai in April of the previous year in Sendai. Uchida, who refused to go down, fell to 10-6, 2 KOs.
